What is Reflexology

Reflexology can help with deep relaxation and an improved sense of wellbeing. It promotes better sleep and an improved frame of mind. It is a non-intrusive complementary therapy that is based on the theory that different points and areas on the feet and hands correspond with different areas of the body. It is an ancient therapy which has been practised for over 5000 years, and it is believed that working these points or areas can help aid relaxation, improve mood, release tension, enhance sleep and can generally help improve wellbeing; allowing us to cope better with the stresses that life can bring.

What to expect

Your first visit will be a longer session (1hour 15 mins) as it will include a consultation where you will discuss your medical history and life style. This will enable Helen to decide which specific points to work on and to tailor the reflexology treatment to your needs. Subsequent treatments are 1 hour.

During the reflexology treatment you will be laying down. Gentle pressure will be applied to your feet, ankle area and lower legs. You may feel a slight discomfort in certain areas but this will be discussed with Helen after the treatment. Most people find the whole reflexology experience very relaxing and often fall asleep during a treatment.

Women’s Health:

Reflexology can help with stress and general wellbeing as well as during key moments in a women’s life including trying to get pregnant, pregnancy and perimenopause/menopause.

Many women choose to have reflexology during pregnancy as it can offer many benefits:

  • Encourages deep relaxation
  • Reduces anxiety
  • Reduces feelings of stress
  • Improves quality of sleep

Trying to get pregnant:

Helen’s training in fertility reflexology was with Seven fertility, who specialise in the treatment of fertility difficulties, supporting those trying to conceive naturally but also for anyone undergoing assisted fertility treatments such as IUI and IVF/ICSI. Your (and your partner-if you wish) lifestyle(s) will be looked at and recommendations made plus different reflexology points will be worked on (depending on where you are in your monthly cycle).
